One week it is an older home off Old Raleigh Road near downtown, something that has been standing since before most of us were born. The next it is a newer build on one of the bigger lots out west toward Jordan Lake. Those two pianos are not the same job.
The older homes near the Salem Street side of town have settled in over decades of Carolina summers. Once we get one of those pianos back where it belongs, the tuning tends to hold pretty well. The newer places west of the Peakway are a different animal. They are built tight, the heat runs hard in the winter, and that dry indoor air pulls a piano flat faster than people expect. A lot of those homes keep the piano in a bonus room over the garage, which is honestly about the worst spot for it. That room runs hotter in summer and colder in winter than the rest of the house, and the piano feels every degree.
For most pianos around Apex, twice a year does it, once in the spring and once in the fall after the heat comes on. If yours sits in a bonus room or up against a wall of windows, you might hear it slip sooner. And if it has been three or four years, do not worry about it. That is most of the calls we get, and we can bring it back up to pitch in a single visit.
